Avant-garde photographer, publicist and organizer of various art actions Saulius Paukštys (b. 1964 in Vilnius) appeared in the sky of Lithuanian photography in the last decade of the Soviet era. After he started photographing the life of his classmates, during his student days in Kaunas in 1982-1987. seriously immersed himself in photography creation, experiments and searching for a unique creative path. Acquaintances with Arūnas Kulikauskas, Gintautas Stulgaitis, Visvaldas Dragūnas and involvement in the activities of the informal "Plėšriųj" group were decisive here.
S. Paukštys is an interdisciplinary creator, his photographic experiments expanded the boundaries and perception of the artistic expression of photography. He is a rebel, a contextual artist, who stands out for his unique conceptual style and personality.
Although the author is an active participant in today's cultural life and actively presents his latest works, his early, "predatory" period and the last 20th century. the work of the decade is still not updated enough. Looking from the perspective of time, the creator's works gain more and more value - it is a reflection of time and human inner states, in which the development of the author's creative strategies and turning points in the context of the era are highlighted, and the genesis of the author's contemporary creative style is revealed.
The exhibition covers the artist's most important creative themes, ideas, forms of rebellion, expressions of techniques. It is important in forming a coherent photographic picture that reveals the wide spectrum of the author's work in different periods.
The exhibition exhibits works from the collection of works of S. Paukškis stored in the Museum of Photography, which probably represents the author's work in the most abundant and comprehensive way among the collections of memory institutions. Also presented are works from the MO Museum, the Lithuanian Union of Photographic Artists, the collections of Ramučis Petniūnas and the author's archive.
The exhibition is intended to mark the author's 60th birthday and 40 years of creative activity.
