Exposition “Bicycle sports in Lithuania” opened at the Bicycle Museum

A new exposition „Bicycle Sports in Lithuania" was opened in one of Šiauliai Aušros Museum's subdivisions – the Bicycle Museum (Vilniaus St. 139, Šiauliai). During recent years, the materials concerning bicycle sports – popular and glorifying Lithuania in the world branch – had been purposely collected in the Museum and now they are on display. The stands, made using mainly digital technologies and revealing the history of bicycle sports starting with 3rd decade of the 20th century, dominate here.

Lithuanian cyclists, representing then the Soviet Union, won the first olympic medals in Seul Olympic Games, in 1988. Artūras Kasputis won one, Gintautas Umaras – two gold medals, Laima Zilporytė won bronze medal in the Games.

Lithuanian cyclists started to represent the world supreme clubs, achieved good results in European and world championships, international competitions. The year 2009 was exclusive for Lithuanian sportsmen: many solid victories were won in high-ranking international competitions, cyclist Simona Krupeckaitė became a champion in the World Bicycle Track Championship, in 2009, and also became a world record-holder.
